The Shafali Verma T20 Effect
T20 cricket thrillers have taken the world by storm, and how. The first few days of November witnessed high-octane clashes, as records fell by the wayside. Shafali Verma, all of 15 years and 285 days, blasted her way into the record books with a sizzling half-century. She calmly shepherded India to a T20 international win against the West Indies. In the process, she also smashed Sachin Tendulkarโs 30-year-old record of being the youngest player to score an international half-century. Way to go girl! This is only your fifth T20I, may you bring many more laurels to India.
History repeats itself – this time in T20 cricket !
Amongst other T20I news, Chris Jordanโs all-round show in the summit clash powered England to an exciting 3-2 series win against New Zealand. In a magical repeat of the ODI World Cup Final, the match was tied at 146 after the stipulated 11 overs (curtailed because of rain). England again prevailed in the super over, courtesy Chris Jordanโs brilliant pyrotechnics both with the bat and ball.
A successful home season for Team India
With the series tantalizingly poised at 1-1, the deciding T20I between hosts India and Bangladesh was staged at the picturesque VCA Stadium, Nagpur. In a see-saw contest, India finally prevailed by 30 runs. At one stage, the Naim and Mithun partnership threatened to snatch the game away from India. However, a hattrick and best T20I bowling figures (6/7 in 3.2 overs) by Deepak Chahar and crucial breakthroughs from Shivam Dube (3/30) enabled India to secure its first T20I series win in this home season. For India, Shreyas Iyer (62) and KL Rahul (52) struck breezy half-centuries. Naim and Mithun were Bangladesh’s top scorers with 81 and 27 respectively. The game of cricket never ceases to amaze. T20 cricket nailbiters, all of them! I recommend Cricbuzz to all of you. It offers a fascinating, ringside view of the world of cricket!
